Welcome to the Disciple Bible Study Ministry at Johns Creek United Methodist Church. All phases of Disciple are offered to our congregation and community. Please come and make yourself at home.
The Disciple Bible Study program has been an active and important feature of the Christian Education Ministry at Johns Creek UMC for almost 20 years. Disciple emphasizes disciplined reading of and listening to the Scriptures. It results in biblically nourished persons committed to live as disciples. Students use both the Bible and the study manual to complete daily reading assignments, generally about 30 minutes of reading per day. The study book also includes commentary and questions for reflection and response. Weekly meetings of 2 – 2 ˝ hours include video presentations with commentary by some of today’s leading Biblical scholars, class discussion and prayer.
Each phase of Disciple emphasizes a unique aspect of the Bible and the Christian faith.
All classes are facilitated by clergy or trained lay facilitators.
Disciple I – Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study
Disciple I is a 34 week study (17 weeks with the Hebrew Scriptures and 17 weeks with the New Testament) utilizing a theme each week to organize the study and reflection. In Disciple I 85% of the entire Bible will be read. This class meets weekly for 2 ˝ hours.
Disciple I is a prerequisite to all subsequent Disciple affiliated studies.
Disciple II – Into the Word into the World
Disciple II is a 32 week study concentrating on Genesis, Exodus, Luke & Acts. Because the readings are less extensive that Disciple I there is more time for reflection and opportunity for a greater in-depth study. Disciple II encourages persons to open themselves to hearing what God has to say to them through the Bible and to be guided into their particular ministry in the world. Meets weekly for 2 ˝ hours.
Disciple III – Remember Who You Are
Disciple III is a 32 week study which concentrates on the writings of the major and minor prophets and the letters of the Apostle Paul. Explore early church history and the power and faith of those who answered the call to witness. Meets for 2 ˝ hours.
Disciple IV – Under the Tree of Life
Disciple IV is a 32 week study of the wisdom writings of the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament offerings of Johns’ Gospel, the letters of John and the Book of Revelation. Present throughout the study is the sense of living toward completion – toward the climax of the message and the promised picture in the revelation. Meets weekly for 2 ˝ hours.

Christian Believer
Christian Believer is a 30 week study concentrating on the classical doctrines of the Christian faith – those that emerged in early Christianity as it struggled to understand its scripture and its experience of Jesus Christ. These doctrines remain central to church teaching and distinguish Christians from other people and Christianity from other faiths. Disciple I and one other Disciple class are prerequisites for Christian Believer. This class meets weekly for 2 hours.

Jesus in the Gospels
Jesus in the Gospels concentrates on the portraits of Jesus that emerge from the four Gospels. To know who Jesus is we must study Jesus in the Gospels. By studying the mission and message of Christ, we can work towards carrying that intended message to the world. Class meets for 2 ˝ hours weekly. Disciple I and one other Disciple class are prerequisites to Jesus in the Gospels.
